This historic Dutch colonial house in East Fishkill, New York was built in stages between 1759 and 1771. It was famously the home of Thomas Storm, Captain of Second Regiment of the Dutchess County Militia. Storm hosted George Washington here one night and as the story goes, Washington walked out the next morning to find that the whole neighborhood had come out to meet him. Seeing that they had all respectfully taken off their hats, Washington told them “put on your hats men. I am but a man like you.” After Storm, the house would be owned by the prominent Dutchess County Adriance family before being sold to the Brinckerhoffs, who held the house for four generations.
