Where

This lost house and former oldest building in Albany, New York once sat at the southeast corner of State and South Pearl Streets. Built in 1667, it was the birthplace of Revolutionary War general, Philip Schuyler in 1733 as well as the birthplace of his daughter, Elizabeth Schuyler, wife to Alexander Hamilton. The house remained in the Schuyler family until 1777 when Stephen J. Schuyler sold it to Henry Staats, leading the house to also be known as the “Staats House.” In 1887 the house was demolished.
