This historic church in Milton, New York was first established in 1789. In 1807, the present church building was built.
The church is a unique reminder that the surrounding area now known as “Lattintown” was originally called “Lattingtown” after the Latting family of settlers there.
One of the church’s first pastors was Aaron Perkins, who was paid $200 per year. He was such a popular preacher that at times, the congregation swelled to such a number that many had to sit outside in their wagons in order to hear his sermons.
Beside the church is an old cemetery with burials dating back to the mid-1700s. Many prominent people from the town’s history are buried here.
Since 2010, the Lattingtown Baptist Church has been registered on the National Register of Historic Places for its historical significance in the town’s history as well as the Federal and Gothic-Revival architecture that it exhibits. The church is still in operation today with an active congregation.
