Built in 1887, this historic Swiss-chalet style building in Wappingers Falls, New York was designed by Henry Congdon and financed by Irving Grinnell with the local Zion Church. Grinnell wanted the tower modeled after one he had seen in Switzerland as well as including an overhanging second story of English inspiration, but besides its history and striking architecture, the library captures local fascination because of the many ghost encounters that have been reported throughout the years. Stories include a deceased librarian whose disembodied shooshing alarm visitors as well as a young ghost boy who’s been seen hiding behind the bookshelves.
