Where

This scenic cavern stands out for the Native American history and legend that surround it.

As legend goes, this is the site of the capture of Sassacus, the last surviving Pequot chief. After the Pequot were massacred in Mystic, CT by the English alongside their Narragansett and Mohegan allies, Sassacus fled to New York hoping to gain refuge with the Mohawks. At the Dover Stone Church, the Mohawks captured and killed him, sending his scalp to the English in an attempt to gain favor.
