This old family burial ground in Middle Hope, New York holds the graves of 50 members of the Cosman family buried between 1801 and 1930. The Cosmans came from Germany and were one of the earliest settlers of this area of what was then Ulster County.

Interred here is Johannes Cosman (1720-1810), a Loyalist that served the British under Capt Richard Hulet during the Revolutionary War.

Since 2006, the Cosman Family Cemetery has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

1851 map show’s Cosman burial ground as well as many local Cosman houses and Henry Cosman’s grist mill
